Who knew that Scranton, PA could be so much fun? But the National Park Service has created a place for little boys who love that colorful train with the Trademarked name. Steamtown is on the site of the old Lackawanna trainyard and still functions as home to a variety of trains owned by the park. The museums include a working Roundhouse and turntable, and some remarkably restored steam engines.
Dylan certainly enjoyed watching real trains do their thing. Ian liked watching the turntable.
Ian just enjoyed getting to walk around and smell the smoke and steam.
Some of the restored train cars were parked fairly permanently for display and exploration purposes.
But some trains rolled around pretty good. Dylan got to ride in the cupola of a caboose. And we took a ride in an old passanger car (acquired from NJ Transit)
