As home to Heidelberg University, the oldest university in Germany, the town has hosted its share of philosphers. The philosophers needed a path for thinking - Philosophenweg.

Towering over the town was Heidelberg Castle. It had a plaza large enough to look like it belonged in town. And it is home to the world's largest wine barrel, reportedly made of 130 oak trees. They say the barrel was mentioned in The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Les Miserables, Moby-Dick, and Mark Twain's A Tramp Abroad.
